A Design Management and Design Thinking Approach for Developing Smart Product Service System Design: Projects from Online Industrial Design Studio

Industrial design as profession has begun to expand its scope in business practices with the recent developments management, thinking, and technology. However, curricula of industrial studio remain traditional mainly focuses on designing products. In fact, management thinking go beyond product design’s establishing strategies, innovation service by positioning humans their needs at center. Besides, technological shift happened through Industry 4.0 enables adapt IT hardware into systems, products services, make them smart unified. To keep up these paradigm changes prepare our students rapidly changing environment, we initiated a Smart Product Service System (Smart-PSS) project 3rd-grade Bahçeşehir University 2019-2020 Spring semester during which online education had just become part lives. this article, present three student projects case studies Smart-PSSs designed stages system design, interface design. As result, gain more holistic approach toward process, acknowledge new expansions transformative role for businesses.
